Duck eggs hatching—help?

@KikisGirls
I noticed you’re from Houston—I’m east of Austin and am having a heck of a time finding duckling companions. The ones I’m seeing on Craigslist are at least one month old, and I’m afraid the baby would get trampled. No farm stores around here have ducks anymore. I have some feelers out with friends, but I thought I’d ask you, too. Just in case you know anyone with a recent hatch. I’ll take just about anything close in age so I can have friends for this little one. I’m considering ordering some Pekins from Ideal and driving to pick them up— cant imagine shipping birds in this miserable heat and having a positive outcome.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
My local feed store mail orders birds weekly from Ideal.
Order on a Wednesday and you will have them on Thursday morning.

If you want to make the drive to Houston I can point you to the feed store that has day olds.
If you planned a trip to be here Thursday afternoon you would get a brand new duckling.

I also be if you were to call Ideal tomorrow morning they could send you a few ducklings
and you could pick them up at your local PO Thursday morning.

I was actually considering making the drive to Cameron to pick them up. All they have is Pekins right now, but it’s better than nothing. My husband wants me to wait a day or two to see if this duckling makes it. I just gave it some nutridrench, which perked it up considerably. Right now, I have one of my kiddos tiny stuffed bears in with it. I usually don’t brood less than five of anything, so this feels super weird to me...

I’ll PM you for store name if I head towards Houston later in the week.

Thanks so much!!

So, I’m officially crazy. I called Ideal early this morning and was able to order five assorted ducks for pickup this afternoon. It’s only about an hour and a half drive for me, so not too bad.

In the mean time, my Little Screamer has to make due with a warm rice sock and a tiny stuffed bear. It’s been eating and drinking and bopping around— seems to be getting stronger by the hour.

I got the incubator cleaned out and am trying to get it dialed in for the next batch... hopefully, I’ve gotten my lessons sorted out for a better outcome. :fl

Thanks to all for advice and support!!:highfive:

Great news!
I hope you are back home now...I'm waiting patiently for pictures. ;):pop

Ah yes! My little lonely Screamer is soooooo happy! Everyone ran around eating and drinking and being ducklings as soon as I unboxed. I’ve got a pic of the newbies, and a really terrible pic of everybody clambering around the dog crate I have them in before I put them in my dedicated brooder outdoors. Screamer is front and center (and out of focus!)
