This lady had Khaki Campbell's, but got rid of the Drake a month ago. To her surprise, her hen had ten eggs (one hatched today) that she was brooding on. She didn't want anymore ducks, so she gave them to me. The little one is in with my chicks atm and is doing fine BUT I noticed that the remaining eggs have a fishy smell? Is this normal? I've never incubated duck eggs, just chicken and quail.

I don't know if this helps, but I know that if you feed canola to a brown egg laying chicken ...that it can lay eggs that are fishy smelling .but you've got ducks, so I don't know .

On occasion my girls (ducks) lay faintly fishy smelling eggs. Seems more when they've forged on earthworms. Don't know why but it's something I have noticed.

Yeah she was laying on them before I picked them up. I candled them and didn't see movement in any of them, so I opened one of them up and it had mold.. I opened another and it looked shrink wrapped.. The smell was awful when I opened them. Those were the best looking ones so I trashed them. I have other eggs in the incubator and didn't want to risk them exploding. I thought hens were supposed to get rid of bad eggs?! I don't know why she was still sitting on them when she had a baby to look after.

I've had freshly laid duck eggs that smell a bit fishy before... a fellow duck person told me it could be due to their diet (eating lots of slugs possibly).
