I am wanting some pekin duck eggs. I had a male and a female but my male was killed by a racoon before my female could lay any fertile eggs. I live in southern illinois and would like to purchase some at a reasonable price. I would not mind to have some mallards as well.

Thank you for your time,

Katrina

I have Pekin eggs, $18 for 6 including shipping, or $25 for a dozen.

How far away are you from Southern Illinois? If you do live far would eggs make it through to me safely? Would you know if they were fertile before you shipped them?

Thank you,

Katrina

I would be interested in 12 of them. Also, is the hatch rate/percentage good of eggs you have shipped before? Sorry to be asking so many question this is the first time I would be possibly having eggs shipped to me.

Hi Katrina,

I'm in New Mexico. There's no way to tell that an egg is fertile before incubation, without cracking them open. I have an incubator full of developing eggs from my ducks though. The last lot I shipped have a 58% growth rate. Duck eggs typically have a lower fertility rate than chicken eggs.

I wrap eggs very carefully and haven't had one broken yet, but with the post office there's always a risk. Shipping eggs is a risky business because of the possibility of a package being x-rayed, arriving late, being exposed to extreme temperatures or being mishandled.

Thank you for letting me know. I do not want to take a chance and they not be good when they get to me. I do not trust our postal service not to x-ray them or to handle them carefully. I appreciate your kindness and for getting back with me. SO for now I do not wish to purchase any. THHANK YOU!

Katrina:)
