Hello. I’ve been lurking for the past year and decided to join up. Originally a pond/aquarium guy I crossed over into the bird side years ago. I started out with some chickens, Australorps, but eventually moved over to ducks. Shhh! I find them funnier
. Currently the flock is 5 Indian runners, a Muscovy and a Muscovy/Indian runner hybrid who is blind.
Having had a pond of some kind for the better part of 20yrs I decided last year to build my ducks/rabbits a new home that would incorporate a raised koi pond. Here’s the fruits of my labor. Enjoy and thanks for the awesome community!
The koi pond is 5’ at its deepest and is raised about 24” above ground level. It incorporates a stream that’s parallel to it. Total volume is 1400 gallons. The streams acts as a surface skimmer for the koi pond and it’s outlet discharges to a gravel bed filter/duck pond. The duck pond is about 18” above ground. Duck pond is roughly 250-300 gallons. The drains from both the koi pond and duck pond flow to a sump that is 2’ below ground level where the water is filtered and pumped back to both ponds via a spaghettis nest of pipes
the sump can hold roughly 250-300 gallons of water.
Below the wooden platform is the sump where the filters, pond drains , and pump inlet are located. The pump returns tee off into the koi pond, the duck pond, the ducks water bucket and the rabbits water dish (which I still haven’t finished installing.)
Bunnies got to experience the ducks home first while I worked their house. The duck pen is pond lined and a layer of gravel over the liner for ease of cleanup. Their is a bottom drain that flows into the sump. I can flood the pen to export the ducks poop.
Duck pen being flooded for cleanup. You can see the drain by the brown Muscovy. Also the pvc pipe which keeps their water bucket constantly filled.
I booted the bunnies out after I finished their home and grass playground. Dang spoiled bunnies lol.
Say hello to the tribe. Duck Duck (original I know) is the blind one in the back. The others take care of her. Leading her to water/food, etc. one of the main reasons I love ducks is they take care of their own.
