Hey guys,

I have a young Muscovy duck,he is just coming into full juvenile feathering,it seems he can't get some of his primary wing feathers to tuck under, and thus they just jut out of each side. Does anyone know if this is natural, are there any remedies to be pursued, what exactly are we looking at here?

My ducks are the same way (7 weeks old) and I posted that question the other day. I was told it was normal.

Oh my, I most certainly hope this isn't a case of angelwing. If it indeed is , what can I do to reverse its effects?

Thanks for caring guys, this duck is my bud, I want to make sure he's ok.

I have two call ducklings doing the same thing - I know (well, pretty reasonably sure) it isn't angel wing cause their protein intake isn't that high (they free range and get 16% feed).

I am thinking it is normal for them to go through an ugly stage. I am not worried about mine.

Not sure of your protein intake on your babies - angel wing is caused by too high of protein in their feed at a certain age.

If he does have angel wing, how late is to late to tape his wings, and how should I go about taping them?

The brand of feed im currently using is Purina Mills; Start and grow at 18% protien.

If i need to switch, what % should I aim for?

Thanks again guys!

I just went through angel wing...I got a feed that is 15% protein..Wrapped his wings for 3 days,,Some say a week but after 3 day his wings are perfect..Feed them alot of greens and it kept them from eating alot of feed...He is back with the others and cant even tell anything was wrong...

Here is a pic of what it looked like..I got it early just as the feathers were coming in...

I hope it's still treatable, he shed the blue sheaths from his primary's around 2 1/2 weeks ago.

OH MY - that's what mine look like! Not to hijack this post, but I was feeding the 20% starter and last week switched to 15% grower. They are 7 weeks tomorrow. I would also like to know how to tape them. Does anyone have pics and what kind of tape do you use?

WHO TOLD YOU THAT?!

Angel wing is most definitely NOT "Normal"!!

Gah! Feed him more greens, and a slightly lower protein food, and tape his wings up properly if it continues.

If ducks are predisposed to angel wing, they should not be bred.
He is predisposed, by his genes. His diet pulled the trigger on the condition.
