Hey ya’ll!
I have a Rouen duck (Loretta) that hasn’t developed her purple feather yet. Which based off research she should have already. Anyone know what might be up?

I also have a Peking duck (Wally). After Wally and Loretta molted their feathers, their front never really grew back as feathers more like a tough fur.

They gets lots of protein and I also mix some brewers yeast into their food. Not sure if this would affect their feathers but I’m worried they may be getting too much protein. They are both 4 months old.

I hope someone can help!!

Welcome to BYC :frow

Could you post photos of the two of them?

Any idea what percent of protein they’re getting? I believe protein is meant to aid in feather growth, not diminish it.

I mix brewers yeast, dried mealworms, beetles, and flies with their regular food (Purina Pelleted Duck Feed for All Life Stages) for a treat I give them once a day.
The bugs have 45% protein and the brewers yeast has 13 grams of protein. But the feed bag doesn’t say.

They have regular food available to them all day with the mixed in brewers yeast. Could too much brewers yeast be a concern? I have mixed it in their food since they were babies.

I’ve added a couple pictures to show their feathers in the front.

I’ve noticed a slight improvement in Wally’s (the Peking duck) feathers since the photo but Loretta’s are the same.

My babies are so photogenic!

Ahh, I see. Loretta is a Khaki Campbell, not a Rouen. Female Campbells do not have the purple feathers.

Their feathers look fine to me. Beautiful ducks ❤️

Some brewers yeast should be fine, it’s great for their legs. I might cut back a little bit on the bugs, though. At least 90% of their food should be the Purina duck feed.

Thank you so so much!!! :wee
Tractor supply must have mixed up! All this time thought I had a Rouen! That explains the feather!

Thanks for the help I’ll be sure to cut back on the bugs!

Wally + Loretta says thanks as well!

:love
