Duck fight gone wrong??

Hello everyone, we have 2 ducks. One is a Pekin and the other is a Muscovy. Our muscovy is 13 months older than the Pekin. About 2 weeks ago, we found our muscovy had passed away but our Pekin was fine. There were no indices of blood however we found our Pekin was pecking out him. We have cameras and found that they were both fine until the night before we found the muscovy and at around 2 am we found that they seem to have fought. We got anew muscovy to accompany our Pekin and found our Pekin was very aggressive at the new duckling attacking her/him. We belive our muscovy (the original one) and our Pekin are both males. The muscovy was nearly 3 years old and our Pekin is currently nearly 2 years old. What could've happened?

I'm also sorry to tell you, over the internet, it's going to be hard for us to give you a reliable reason why your duck may have died. In an ideal world, you would have sent the body to your state veterinary lab for a necropsy, but you now know, what to do, if it does happen again (hopefully not).

Luckily, domesticated waterfowl are seldom affected by infectious contagious diseases, so I wouldn't worry too much about it being something that might spread to your current ducks.

I can’t imagine your Pekin and Muscovy fighting causing the death. Speaking since I have a Muscovy drake and he can beat the poop out of my gander. I could be wrong but Muscovy are fierce fighters. I’d keep your new duck and the Pekin separated but where they can see each other and let them get use to each other it may take a while so don’t rush it. Very sorry for your loss.
