Hey I am contemplating walking my ducks down to the river to go for a swim. I have baby cayugas and a four month old kakhi Campbell. Anyone have any luck using duck harnesses and if so which kind?

I have! I walked these guys in a parade!

Better make sure they are harnesses for ducks because they can slip out very easily. I would be cautious letting them swim in the river if other water fowl are around because of disease.

I live near a river too, in tempted to let them swim there but there's lots of turtles. If you walk your ducks any distance be aware their feet are sensitive and they might need shoes.

Curious why you said that their feet are sensitive? Do you mean on concrete/asphalt? My ducks free range and are always walking around. Unless they step on thorns their feet are pretty sturdy.

Yeah I was referring to concrete or asphalt, I guess I was picturing my own situation which would involve walking down the street a bit.

Gotcha. Concrete or asphalt down long distances would probably hurt their feet. We have a pond at the edge of our property too... haven't showed them yet because they would probably never come back! lol

If I had a pond on my property, I'd probably put them in it if there's not snapping turtles. I've heard some people introduce their ducks to ponds, and the ducks are afraid of it at first. They really don't care for new things!
