Hi. This is my first hatch and my first time on this forum and I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I am panicking about losing my ducklings.

One of my runner duck egg pipped externally about 30 hours ago but has not broken the membrane. There is lots of movement and I can see him trying to poke through. Do I need to help him now or is this still ok to leave longer. Thank you

He can breathe through it. It's fine. I would leave him a few more hours. The membrane is a good color so he's not dried out. What day are they on? What is the humidity at?

phew, thanks. They are on day 27 and the humidity has been between 75 - 80% for most of the lockdown (day 26). It dropped to 69% briefly this morning.

So they're still early yet. Sounds good. Just give him a few more hours. He should make a second pip soon and then start zipping.

sorry one other question. what should the temperature be, do i need to lower it as he zips. Its at 36.9 at the moment and I have another egg that is about few hours behind this one. the second egg pipped externally about 17 hours ago.

It should be 37.5 Celsius, 99.5 Fahrenheit.

Update: the duckling is out! It all suddenly happened really quickly. He seems to be fine but can I ask what this is, that came out the shell with him. It’s not yolk although it has a tinge of yellow to it. It was slightly attached to him but came away easily as he came out the shell. He seems fine in the incubator now, finding his feet and starting to fluff up.
