Duck has worms

You're welcome! What kind of worms do they have?
So the first day I saw them they were big fat worms. I thought they were maggots. But they were from the poop she had just made so idk if they were. The next day I went thru her poop with a stick and there were tiny tiny tiny tiny little ones that you can barely see but they were squirming around. I’m not familiar with types of worms in ducks so I’m not really sure what kind they are. @CoriM

I recommend using pyrantel as it has a broader spectrum than albedazole and is very safe. [I have used it in my medical practice since 1984]

I strongly recommend that you treat all your ducks, not just your sick duck, and any other waterfowl and chickens you might have

It's available from Tractor Supply, or on line

http://www.poultrydvm.com/drugs/pyrantel#:~:text=Pyrantel Pamoate (pyrantel embonate) is a pyrimidine-derivative anthelmintic,,internal parasites--specifically against large roundworms, Capillaria, and Hetarakis.
Thank you so much!!!

Are you a vet? As I understand it, Valbazen (albendazole) treats more types of worms. Pyrantel is very safe though.
I don't think it treats capillary worms, but I could be wrong. Roundworms? Yes. Cecal worms? Maybe.

What is the dosage?

Lowest and most common dose shown is 4.5 mg/kg = 0.041 ml per pound
The duck dose shown in the one picture is 7 mg/kg = 0.064 ml per pound of bodyweight
One of my books says the goose dose is 50 mg/kg = 0.45 ml per pound of bodyweight

Plumbs says:

Duck get the same worms as chickens:

What you're describing sounds more like maggots. Can you catch the duck and check her belly & vent for flystrike and maggots?

No I'm a retired physician. Certainly in humans pyrantel has a broader spectrum than abendazole and requires only one dose not 3 day dosing for many human worms!! Its very safe and cheap outside the USA which makes it ideal for use in less wealthy countries

@casportpony
I just read up all the worms that ducks can have -- far more than in humans. Humans get threadworms [also known as pin worms] round worms, whip worms, hook worms and several tape worms. Pyrantel hits them all, importantly in many resource poor countries, it hits tape worms which abendazole and other medicines alone are less effective for. And Pyrantel is very cheap

It's good that it gets them all in humans, but I don't think it works the same on poultry worms. I looked and could not find any studies though.

I feel terrible that she’s been unable to walk since early this year. And I thought it was niacin. I feel awful. I should have done more research. I still have not been able to purchase and actual medication. If I do order any type of meds like safeguard it’s for horses and the other one says for human use and im not sure what dosage I’d give her. What is the #1 thing that I should purchase because you guys have said a few different ones and they are quite pricey as I did just spend 70$ on natural crap. I’m going to check her now. I didn’t see any maggots or anything back there. She is just stained from poop because she is sitting in the same spot all night. She just drags herself around. At first she was getting sores on her feet from not walking I had to buy ointment and shoes for her. I really just want her to get better and I can’t really afford a vet right now or I’d take her in a heartbeat. I need her to get better!!!
