Duck hasn't walked in months

I don't like to keep sticking, as I'm sure it gets uncomfortable so I will do the oral, thanks a million

I have a white male duck who started out with bumble foot and was limping. I never had ducks before and did not realize he had bumblefoot until I researched it. I am assuming that I realized it too late since now he no longer walks, the leg is still swollen. I had him on antibiotics in his water, which he drank at first but stopped due to taste, I then resorted to giving it in a syringe. He stayed on the antibiotics for over a month with no result. This has been going on about 4 months. He eats, drinks, and will swim around if I put him in the small pond, but cannot walk. I don't want to put him down, but I am out of ideas. I even tried penicillin injections daily into breast muscle. I feel really sorry for him. He is just exciting. Any thoughts would be appreciated
How did you get antibiotics and penicillin for it if there are no vets to see your duck?
I imagine any vet that visits a farm could see your duck. Or an avian vet could see your duck as well. I would call around, even cat and dog vets will be able to give advice or direct you to a vet that could help.
That looks pretty serious especially if the duck has resorted to not walking. His leg will atrophy without using his leg muscles and he might even lose the use of his good leg.
If all else fails and you just can't get any vet to see him, you might want to look into making him a sling so that he can get his good leg moving and get up off of the ground. I can't imagine it is good for his underside to be sitting like that all of the time.
You can make something like what is described in this blog:

I was able to buy penicillin at the co-op and my vet ordered me the antibiotic for his water but when I asked him to look at the duck, he said he didn't know much about them so not to bring him in!! Wow, yea I know. I like the sling idea, thank you

Penicillin is sold at most feed stores and one can get just about any other antibiotic without a prescription if they know where to look. ;)
Ah ok. I knew some of these things were removed from store shelves due to over use. I guess I would still keep looking until I found a vet to help since what was initially tried hasn't worked for a month. It is amazing the duck hasn't succumbed to whatever infection it has.
My in-laws are farmers, so I know about finding resources when it comes to animals and livestock.

Good to have those resources available to you. Thanks for the tips

Are you in the US? I know the question was asked, but I didn't see the answer.
If so, maybe ask your local extension office for a contact for their poultry leader. They should be able to direct you to a vet that can help. All 4-h animals have to be cleared by a vet before being shown.

Prescriptions are needed for almost all water soluble and feed antibiotics unless you live in Calfornia where all antibiotics require a prescription.
