Duck hatch-a-long october/november!!!!!! come join!

Btw, my boys (3.5 and 2) are going to be super excited to see the ducks tomorrow. The three year old has been watching hatching videos with me and now understands how the whole "baby bird comes out of the egg" thing works. So I'm sure he's going to love telling all his friends at school about our new pets next month.

I know what you mean. My daughter is 17 months and she already knows that eggs mean little chickies/duckies. She'll grab an egg and hug it and go "awe". Lol.

Can't wait until she's old enough to go out and help me collect the duck eggs out of the pen.

So all 24 eggs she gave me today were fresh after all, they ended up getting 7 today, one from each girl. When I got home I realized that one of the eggs was cracked. I patched it with wax but it was still weeping so I went ahead and made myself an omelet. No big seal really, since I'll have 31 eggs in the incubator total. The lady seemed really interested in the whole idea of incubation and even mentioned that if my hatch goes well she may have me hatch for her and sell chicks. I guess she got her ladies within the last year as adults and had hatched about 40 ducklings under broody ducks this past spring but has never tried the incubator. I told her if all went well I would love to go into business with her so to speak. She was talking about getting some giant Peking ladies and a Muscovy drake to put over them in a different area than her egg laying flock in order to create a sort of "broiler duck" of sorts. I told her I'd send her pictures when the babies hatch. I'm happy with the interaction on the whole. Now to wait for my eggs that are coming in tomorrow.

You could still incubate washed eggs. Some people report high hatch rates from washed eggs, some don't. However, I do not recommend putting chickens and ducks in the incubator at the same time. Chickens only take 21 days to hatch whereas ducks take 28-32. The spike in humidity with the chickens during their hatch can kill off your duck embryos.

Oh no, the eggs I picked up today are a barnyard mix of duck eggs. She doesn't keep chickens because she's allergic to chicken eggs. She's got 3 golden 300's, two Pekings, two Swedish blues and a Rouen drake. I should have some pretty looking mixed babies from that lot. The eggs that are coming in tomorrow are 6 khaki Campbell's and 2 Indian runners. I'm so excited for Sunday night!

Oh ha okay! Well that is awesome then!!! I really hope your hatch goes well! If there's males/females and they aren't molting you should have a High hatch rate!

Keep us updated and let us know if we can help you with anything!

Yeah, she did a great job at wrapping them. About half of them look like they've got detached air cells though. :(

That's OK incubate them anyways. Put them in the turner fat end up and leave the turner off for the first 24 hrs of incubation. If they are fertile they should develop just fine.
