Duck hatch-a-long october/november!!!!!! come join!

The auction that ended today was for Khaki's, the ones that end on Wednesday are for mallards. I didn't win though :( somebody waited till the very last second and then outbid me. I was not a happy camper for sure.

Oh okay ducks though. You should be perfectly fine to wait (for future reference). Ducks handle well in shipping too. I live in Florida and I've gotten eggs from CA with 50% hatch rate, which is great for such a long distance!

Sorry you didn't win by the way!! That always irritates me with eBay. Generally people that sell immediately list again with more eggs. So if someone's bid I wait until the person lists again and then I bid on that one.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm having a heck of a time finding eggs locally or I'd just buy from someone here. I'd actually prefer it, since shipping costs an arm and a leg it seems. Oh well. If I can't find any eggs here and can't win some at a reasonable price on eBay I guess I'll just wait and get a few babies from TSC when they get them in. But it makes me sad since I went out and bought my 'bator today. :(

Yeah I wouldn't get any from TSC. They are typically mules, or at least all the ones Ive gotten are.

Go for eggs, I'm an impatient person myself so I know what you mean about wanting them now! There's another lady on here whose call ducks are still laying. Call ducks are a bit more difficult to hatch though so it'd be up to you on whether or not you'd want to try that out.

What breeds do you want? There's some locals selling pekin duck eggs for $12 a dozen. There might be someone selling Muscovy eggs too I'll have to check. I'd be willing to buy some and ship them to you if you reimbursed me. That's if you can't find any :) I am in Florida so typically can find eggs all the time no problem!

Buying ducklings from TSC would be my last resort.
A dollar an egg isn't a bad deal, but how much do you think shipping would be? I'm more interested in eggs than meat, and from what I've read pekings really aren't the best layers. I haven't really done much research about Muscovys but that's a possibility. I think I may have more research to do.

I use USPS Flat Rate boxes. so it would be whatever one I could fit a dozen in comfortably to protect them from breaking. That is typically the $15 boxes.

I would offer you ancona duck eggs, they are great egg layers, but they are a critically endangered breed. Typical price is $40 a dozen hatching eggs. If you check on ebay, there is a person that has them for around $2 for 6 plus $15 shipping. This is a good price but I have not bought from him personally because of his high rate of negative feedback. the person from california that has 6 for $25 plus $10 shipping on ebay I have bought from her, she is the one I told you about. She typically sends extra eggs. great seller to deal with.

You should definitely research and decide what breed is right for you. Also check your local conservation laws. Some states are stricter than others on what you can own.

For example, I live in florida, and to own any duck other than a pekin or muscovy requires a florida game farm license which is $50 a year and regulated by the FWC.

As far as legalities go, I know I'm good to go. From what I'm reading, the Muscovy's sound like the way to go. It sounds like they're not the greatest layers, but the fact that they're one of the quietest ducks is a major draw for me. If you could see if you could find some for me I would be very grateful, since I can't seem to find any for sale online at all...

Will do, I'm stopping by a breeders place in the next couple days to grab some ducklings for my friend. I'll see if she's got any eggs for sale. A dozen good?

I'm thinking that one of the ducklings I hatched is only half ancona. It has way too much color and hardly broken at all. He (don't actually know sex yet) also has buff colored lacing on all his brown and black feathers, and his eyes are blue. He is significantly smaller and slimmer than his hatchmate and has a very upright carriage, more like the runner ducks. Also his personality is night and day different than the other one. She (again don't actually know sex yet) is calm, curious, friendly and bold. While he is flighty, skittish, reserved, and scared of everything.
