Duck hatched babies, when will she let us see?

I am sorry to hear about your duck, was she laying yet? Hopefully it wasn’t something contagious. Just so hard to know if no visiable signs and they can hide their sickness so good till a lot of times it’s too late to help. As for the rest of the eggs I’d say your probably right and it would be good to smell an candle when you take them out before tossing. She needs to be up teaching her ducklings now.

I'm going to sound like a total crappy duck owner here but I don't know if she was laying or not. I think she was but I'm not sure. She was always the quiet one, never really hung out around the other ducks. She didn't really care for humans either.
We buried her yesterday, had a little funeral for her. A bit ridiculous I know. If another duck dies, which I hope doesn't, I will send it off for a necropsy.
Today's job is getting mama duck off that nest of duds.
Thank you for all your help. I very much appreciate it.

I would at this point get rid of the rest of the eggs so mom can move onto tending her ducklings instead of setting.

In my experiences ducks are pretty healthy and not prone to diseases like chickens are. I would guess she had something internal going on, and it was an isolated thing.

Such cuties!
If there is a medical reason or other important reason you need to see the babies you can always put a towel over the mother’s head. It keeps her calm and quiet.
