Ok interesting..I’ll just have to go touch the water..her legs were shivering a bit before she waddled out and laid down...I’ll add some vitamin B to her diet, and more calcium...she gets crushed oyster shells but I don’t see her eat them...thanks!Simple question: How cold is the water in that creek?
I have seen a similar behavior with two of my Runner girls after they hopped into the almost frozen duck pool. They immediately hopped back out, walked two, three steps then laid down and retracted their landing gear back into the feathers. Sometimes it seems they really dislike very cold water.
Is your duck shaking or trembling?
Is she able to hold up her head?
My ducks also like to lay down with spreaded wings, like your duck on cold sunny mornings to absorb more warmth from the sun.
Adding vitamin B (complex) to your ducks diet is always a good idea and you cannot overdose water soluble vitamins like B or C. Careful with Vitamin E, D and K they are being stored in the liver and can have a toxic effect if heavily overdosed.
Does your duck have a good source for Calcium, Magnesium and other minerals, like crushed Oyster-shells? Lack of magnesium can cause muscle cramps in conjunction with cold water…
