duck heart attack :(

I’ve went through most of what you were explaining. And I’m sorry for your loss. It feels so heartbreaking when they go through the violent trauma that you described. :hugs

I came to their shed late one night to feed them, and it was dark outside. I startled them and turned on the light. One of them started doing what you described. She had a seizure. However she didn’t quit breathing thank goodness. This happened twice on different nights. I bought a night light for the shed so hopefully she wouldn’t have another seizure triggered by the sudden noise and light. I had this happen to another duckling however it was mostly the sudden noise rather than the light that triggered it. I started them on poultry vitamins after that just coincidentally. And they didn’t have another one. Do you have any concentrated poultry vitamins you can start giving them ASAP? Vitamin B1 and B3 are both really good for neurological development. You can have some ducklings hatch vitamin deficient just based on what Moms intake was when she laid the egg. So you can have some ducklings act normal and some not with the same environment and feed. Let us know what kind of poultry vitamin products you have available to you and someone on here can tell you the best one for your needs.

I also would check your feed. What kind are you giving them? Most likely he hatched out lacking some important vitamins or physical aspect that continued to get worse without symptoms until it was too late. We will never know and you took great care of him and loved him. Don’t beat yourself up.
