Duck Help (loudness)

Calls and pekins are the loudest from what i gather...

I've heard cayugas are not too bad. Runners can get loud, but they are quiet if they are content. I have 6 females runners living inside of my house, they have their moments, but it's nothing that a ducky time out can't fix (a ducky time out consists of being in a dark room, like being put in the tub with no water with the lights off. lol)

My cayugas were VERY quiet. But... My east indies have now corrupted them they now quack with the east indies. Would swear they are over grown call ducks lol.

My Rouens are quiet most of the time, but when they do feel the need to chat, it's at the top of their lungs and they are quite wordy.

besides the mute muscovies, all female ducks can get loud if they want to. Pekin and calls tend to get loud the most often, while cayugas and magpies will get loud less often.

like I said, I keep six female ducks inside my house, which is a townhouse in downtown chicago. My neighbors and I share walls, and they go in and our of broodiness and get loud from time to time. I've had ducks for over a year and a half and have never gotten a complaint about noise.

It's kind of like dogs, they all bark, some louder than others, but they all can bark loud if they want to. Only difference is you can't teach a duck not to quack. lol.

Female ducks will quack when they are hungry, unhappy, want something, or are broody and don't want you or anyone else by their eggs.

Muscovies are deff the quietest.... the females make sort of a muffled chortling noise and a soft sort of squeak when broody where as the males make a little throaty panting noise. They are a lot quieter than chickens

As most have said Muscovies are the quietest as they lose their ability to quack when they mature. Also females are definitely louder than males in other species of duck. Depends on what you are looking for. We have 17 runners, Swedes, Khaki Campells and mixes. They can make a racket all together. We live on 1.5 acres and all of our neighbors say they don't mind the noise. (we have a total of 44 birds between ducks, chickens and guineas.) They only hear them when they are outside.
