DUCK HELP PLEASE

Can't runners fly a little though ? Because I just started to notice that when I pick my female up she sometimes will fly right out of my hands into the water with her other friends ?

They can't fly like a flying breed can.

Just a thought...have you happened to ask you neighbor, owner if said pond or whatever, if THEY want to just have your ducks? They might just say "sure", and rehoming problem solved....

I'm trying to stay glued together about this thread. Y'all know how well that usually works for me.... I'm just skimming through the posts because I'm having a hard time reading them without punctuation. I saw where runners lack of flying skills has been discussed, but has anyone stated the obvious? Runners aren't the water hogs that most ducks are? @liv22 you sound very young. I'm 46, so don't take that personal. Lol. Anyway, like @Amiga said earlier, some projects don't work out the way we hope. It doesn't sound like now is the best time in life for you to take on the burden of ducks. Since this isn't your pond, it's probably best that you let your neighbor solve his own problem. Ducks are like dogs with feathers. If you lived near to a junkyard that had a pack of dogs, would you get some puppies in order to raise them until they were "big enough" to join the pack? It's the same social situation. With some horrible mating issues thrown in. Really really not good. Don't release these and please don't just give them to your neighbor. That is simply letting him be the one to turn his back on them, not you. But you know beforehand what he's going to do. Once your ducks are rehomed, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't get anymore. There's plenty of time later to own ducks when you have the time to enjoy each other. If you got these ducks with the plan of releasing them and done any research, you would have never gotten runners. Even If that was all that was available, you could've said no. Please know I'm not making a personal judgement of you at all. We've all wanted something in our lives when the timing just wasn't right. You need to be concentrating on school! Lol. Mom moment.

In my area we have a local pond where people take their unwanted domestic ducks (or they think they are doing a good thing by "repopulating the pond"...seriously its like a "thing"). Its so terrible, these khakis and pekins are quickly gobbled up or hit by cars. Domestic ducks are bred to be cared for, to be provided food, water, and to be kept safe from predators. In the winter months they still need fresh drinking water and a space to ensure they aren't prey. Perhaps you could find someone who is willing to take the responsibility of them? The only way I see this is getting another type of domesticated animal, like a puppy or kitten, and leaving it to its own devices. Domestic ducks need human intervention to be safe and healthy.
