Duck house in progress

That is very beautiful thanks for the great idea! How many ducks do you have?

We have 8 ducklings, about 2 weeks old. They still like their heat lamp after playtime in the water. Too small to let outside for any period of time, I'm hoping it warms up next week. Ducklings feather out a lot slower than chicks. They are starting their 3rd week and not a feather in sight, even though they get 20% protein and Brewers yeast. They're growing, just not feathering. I'll post pictures in a few days.

OK, so my little flock of hungry quackers is exactly 3 weeks old as of today. Meaning the first two hatched out on Mar 11th. The rest are 2-4 days after that. Notice that one little duckling (Sweetums) in 2nd picture is much smaller than the rest, and she/he was NOT the last to hatch. Just growing a lot slower than the rest of the flock. But just as pushy at the food and water troughs.

Oh wow Sweetums is a lot smaller. Less feathers, too, right? Just baby fluff?

How are they around people? Scared/not?

P.S. In case you haven't figured this out, I love them

They don't like strangers but if you give them peas (frozen but unthawed) or shredded carrots or some greens from the yard, they are instantly your BFF. Sweetums is just maturing about 50% slower than everyone else, I don't know why but he/she seems to be healthy and very active. But, I won't be using Sweetums in my breeding program, since maturity rate is so slow. He'll be a pet, for sure.

Ducks will do anything for food, lol! We taught our ducks that us whistling = treats. They would come running as fast as they could when we whistled

It's good that Sweetums is just a late bloomer, and that nothing is seriously wrong.

Well, little Sweetums has started to grow, almost overnight. I can't believe how fast he has packed on the pounds and is growing out his feathers. He is "almost" as big as the others. I will take another pic of the teenage ducks on Saturday, which will be exactly 4 weeks since the first hatch. Welshes can really grow fast once they get their game on. Next week, for sure, they will be out of the brooder!

Today the brooder has been disassembled and the ducks are out in their fenced run. Exactly 4 weeks old. Soooo glad to have them out of the feed room and the mess cleaned up. Sweetums has grown to be as big as everyone else, feathers and all.
