Duck ID... domestic or wild?

We have a lot of pets that end up lost in our neighborhood... neighbor has this one in his yard currently. I tried using a bird ID app, but no luck. Does anyone recognize the breed? He says the duck is just sitting there, not afraid. I thought that MIGHT mean its a lost pet.

I believe it's a coot - a wild waterfowl.

I was wondering the same... i asked him if he could get some peas and water for it.. but when he went back out an hour later, it was gone. So that's a good sign, it probably flew off!

If they are migratory it may have just stopped by for a rest before resuming its flight south, of course being middle of texas it was already pretty far south lol

And there isn't exactly water nearby. Maybe it was aiming for a pool!

There is a cold snap hitting north of here.. maybe thats what sent it flying over. Even my neck of the woods is going from a high of 90 today to a low of 54 tomorrow night poor thing is probably heading to Cancun with Ted Cruz.
