Duck Identification

The Blue and the Black & White appear to be Drakes...The White and the Brown appear to be Hens...Roeun Hen and. Pekin cross Hen.As far as the others go, they look like crosses..

I looked at their tails, the blue one has a curled up feather and the black and white one has the same 1 feather curl. The other three have straight tail feathers. I have a question... Would any of these breeds be laying right now? I live in West Virginia. If they are they are sneaky about where in the run they are hiding them. Getting under the coop seems a bit unappealing. I have used a light to try and see if there was a nest and I can't seem to find anything. I have seen pictures and videos where the duck eggs look just like chicken eggs. People say they are slick, I have chicken eggs that are pretty slick. Ugh I wish I could know for sure, well besides cracking the eggs open.

Now catch the ones with the curled feathers and listen to the noise they make.
You'll notice it's not the quack quack that you would think of a duck sounding like. Its a more of a raspy sound. Then catch the ones you're unsure of and see if they make that noise or the typical quack quack sound. If they quack they're females.
Yes duck eggs are "slick" feeling. Once you've seen and felt a few they are easy to tell from chicken eggs. Even my kids can tell the difference.
Most all my ducks have quit laying besides the muscovies.

Blk Swedish and blue Swedish the white does look to be Call. I don't see a curled tail feather to recognize a drake in the group, other than curled tail feather the females quack loud and the drakes have a very raspy quack.

Just my opinion though I would herd all in at night for their safety eventually the chickens should go in on their own but it may take herding to get the ducks inside but predators are relentless and will climb over fencing dig under and go through to get a tasty duck.

I got confirmation from the actual breeder (when he may have dropped off 3 khaki Campbells (a drake and two hens) yesterday). The blue and white and black and whites are Pekin and Swedish crosses. He said the one black and white and blue and white were the males. The white one is a Pekin, and the brown one is a true female Rouen. I knew the breeder and took a while to get a hold of him for confirmation!

They will also cover eggs with bedding. All of mine are still laying and I'm near Ohio West Virginia state line. But, sometimes if the younger ones haven't started laying by late in season they wait til following Spring to start.

Well they are all beautiful and mixes really do make nice ducks.

So you got 3 new ducks yesterday? Congrats!
These are my three new ones.
