Hello;

I had 2 ducks that grew up together - 1 male and 1 female. I just lost my female and I want to get my male another friend (or 2?). He’s almost 2 years old. Should I only be looking at females - will he fight with another male? Also does the age of the new ducks matter? Thanks in advance for your help!

I think if you get a new duck that is full grown you can work on integration pretty much straight away after quarantine, but if you get a duckling you will probably need to wait until it is close to full grown before you should try to put them together.

I have never had more than one drake in my flock, but there are people that do it successfully.

Having multiple drakes can lead to problems, especially with little to no females. What breed is he? Most people who have multiple males try to have 4 females per drake.

When I was down to a single duck he went and found my family member/ neighbors ducks. Ducks generally don't do well alone so the sooner you can introduce them the better.

I'd try to find adult females, keep them far away from each other for a minimum of 2 weeks up to 6 weeks to make sure they are healthy and won't introduce anything nasty to your drake.

Once that's over, let them see each other but not be able to get to one another. They should click pretty quickly since he wants to breed them and he probably wants be close to another duck.

You could get ducklings, but it would take longer to introduce. He could injure young ducks trying to breed them.

I hope you find your boy some friends soon!
