Hello all! There is a beautiful medium sized duck that has been left behind by his usual brown and green flock. I’ve lived here for years, I always joke wondering if he/she knows they look different from all the other ducks they hang with — they always leave&come back to the pond but this year they left their white buddy behind. I’m worried they’re going to freeze or get frost bitten this winter not having anyone to huddle with or keep them company. I went out this morning and gave them some cut grapes. They look very healthy and they’re pretty socialized living in an apartment complex pond. Would love if someone could pick the solo guy up so he isnt cold and alone for the holidays.

Is it a mallard or domesticated duck that was released? If it is a wild mallard it will be fine. Southern Missouri is actually in their winter migration safe zone. The picture is from the mallard conservation law center.

He is always hanging out with the mallards but he or she is about 1/3 larger and is mostly all white with a little grey

And wherever the group of ducks went this winter - I’m not sure but they left buddy behind just floating in the slushy soon to be frozen pond alone

can you get a picture? It may or may not be wild depending. If it is wild then it will be fine even without the others. Since it is not a mallard that is why it was left behind. Birds of a feather flock together. Some wild duck species tend to be more loners or only in pairs. Only a domesticated duck would need rescued due to winter conditions.
