Duck leg swollen at hock - help!

Not Amiga, but what I do is make up the Epsom Salt solution in a bucket, then wet the rag in the solution. That is your compress, so wrap and hold. That's what I do anyway, when I can't soak it.

HollyDuckFarmer does pretty much what I do, I just do it on a smaller scale - 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt in half a cup of warm water, soak a clean rag in that, and wrap the leg and foot while holding the duck (I wear my don't-care-if-they-get-dirty clothes for this).

Miss Lydia, and I think HDF, sometimes put a larger amount of solution in a small shallow bucket and hold their ducks gently so that they are standing in the solution.

Just don't want them drinking it, it is a laxative.

Thank you. I'll try to do this for him a couple times a day. I forgot to mention he is a runner... I don't know if that's important to know or not in the overall scheme of things.

He is so peaceful and gentle, but apparently he is the Alpha. I just never knew for sure until I went to feed them yesterday... normally they are in their pool. But since their leader was injured and couldn't stand let alone get in the pool, the other three were all calmly laying in the grass with him.

I hope he will recover.

If it is not broken or infected, and it is a pull or sprain it will take days and days to heal but ought to.

Epsom salt compresses, and I have used a tiny bit of Traumeel at night on our ducks.

I get mine at the mom n pop store near us, you may be able to find it at health food stores or online. You may even be able to find it at a drugstore. I have noticed those carry more homeopathic medicines these days.

Recently I think I recall reading the abstract of a peer-reviewed paper on the benefits of using Traumeel in veterinary practice. Let me see if I can find that.

I have a Pekin duck with a hurt leg. It started about a week ago. She limps and curls in one foot. That foot has swelling in the hock, but not the foot area. She doesn't seem to be in pain and still has a good appetite. I have been giving her bath time to help along with a very small amount of Baytril (antibiotic). It doesn't seem to be improving and I feel bad for the duck. There are no close avian vets, so I am trying to research as much as possible. I have posted a picture for viewing.

Any help is appreciated. I farm and have several other animals, but these are my first ducks.
