About four days ago one of our 3 month old ducks started limping. We checked his feet, no sign of bumblefoot, so we let him be. Now his limp seems better, but he is lethargic and not eating. We gave him some Epsom salt solution in case of bacteria, and are currently giving him an electrolyte solution, but he has only gotten weaker. Any recommendations?

I am so sorry about your duck. You will want to post this in our emergency section and or duck section for more help...

I hope you can get some help for your baby.

Is he eating proper duck feed? Ducks can have problems if they have a niacin deficiency. Please inquire about that on the ducks thread. I don't know much about ducks at all.

Thanks. I've reposted on both ducks and emergencies.

It's too late. We lost him. I'll check and see if anyone knows what it was so we can keep the others healthy.

Welcome to BYC. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about ducks (although I've had a few), but I'm sorry for the loss of your duck. I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. Good luck with the rest of your flock.

Not sure if you've tried the poly-vi-sol vitamin drops yet but if not I think it's worth a try. You can get them at any pharmacy or walmart in the baby section I believe. Make sure it's the ones without iron. One to two drops two to three times per day is what I've been reading on different sites including this one. Hope it gets better soon.
