I picked up an 18 month old Campbell thinking it was a duck and now I am having doubts. She (he) has the curly feathers by her tail and I thought only drakes got those.

Worst case is it's a drake and then I have an excuse to go get another duck!

Sorry, but thats a drake.

dont mind me asking but how can you tell???

The head is changing a darker color, and the tail feathers, and he is starting to look like my khaki drake

definitely drake. The dark brown head is a giveaway even if he didn't have the curly tail feather (that can be seasonal "nuptial plumage") You can always sex them by quack sound. Ducks have the loud stereotypical QWACK! and drakes almost sound like small throaty frog croaks. but hey! campbell drakes are great for breeding layers!
