They sure are cute, and thanks I feel very relaxed after watching them. The babies are enjoying a nice little swim ... very relaxing!
looks nice! I would consider a more shallow, less high wading pool though. Or either build up all the way around the pan or sink the pan into the ground some. You will see that they don't always use the steps to come out of the pool and can easily hurt their legs when landing. Been there done that.![]()
If you plan on keeping your ducks in there 24/7 I would put something outside on the bottom to keep out diggers. It's a nice run for them but it doesn't look safe. you can use hardware cloth or some other kind of fencing besides chicken wire and attach to the fence and bury it about a foot in the ground or lay it out from the run then put something heavy to hold it down.
Good plan because we never know what kind of predators we have till we put out supper[our ducklings/chickens etc] then we find out and sometimes too late.Thank you. I plan on cementing around the outside of it down far enough to keep out predators. I am going to do the same thing with my chicken coop. So far in my neighborhood the only problem I have had is with rats tunnelling under the chicken coop and stealing eggs. But my best friend lives a half mile away and she is having issues with foxes steaking her chickens so going to be more preventative. We burried the pan into the ground halfway. I will build up the dirt around it a bit more this weekend, though. Thank you for your advise, I really appreciate it!
They are adorable. Have you ever put live fish in for them to catch?
Oh my gosh they will I saw my Muscovy duck eat a frog whole once,Life fish will come in time ... tomorrow they have to find a leak in the left waterfall and when the whole thing is finally finished fish are in order as a snack. Think that they will be a bit frenetic trying to catch em! We now have a frog or two as they were very loud last night 'croaking' ... something tells me the babies will go after them too ...
OMG! Thank you for this! We just filled our duck pond cuz i hated bailing it, but for our kio pond that needs to be drained every so often, this is excellent! I actually resorted to sucking on the end of the hose till water came (yea.. don't ask) I had no idea you could get it to drain this way! Where have you been? LOL!!.all you do is submerge the entire hose (don't make it too long or this is more difficult) making sure that all the air bubbles are out, once all the bubbles are out, keep one end in the water and put your hand over the other end...pull out of the water, and into a bucket/on the ground/etc and it will just pour out of the pond/pool.![]()
