Duck Pond/pool pictures

looks nice! I would consider a more shallow, less high wading pool though. Or either build up all the way around the pan or sink the pan into the ground some. You will see that they don't always use the steps to come out of the pool and can easily hurt their legs when landing. Been there done that. :)

If you plan on keeping your ducks in there 24/7 I would put something outside on the bottom to keep out diggers. It's a nice run for them but it doesn't look safe. you can use hardware cloth or some other kind of fencing besides chicken wire and attach to the fence and bury it about a foot in the ground or lay it out from the run then put something heavy to hold it down.

Thank you. I plan on cementing around the outside of it down far enough to keep out predators. I am going to do the same thing with my chicken coop. So far in my neighborhood the only problem I have had is with rats tunnelling under the chicken coop and stealing eggs. But my best friend lives a half mile away and she is having issues with foxes steaking her chickens so going to be more preventative. We burried the pan into the ground halfway. I will build up the dirt around it a bit more this weekend, though. Thank you for your advise, I really appreciate it!

Good plan because we never know what kind of predators we have till we put out supper[our ducklings/chickens etc] then we find out and sometimes too late.

Life fish will come in time ... tomorrow they have to find a leak in the left waterfall and when the whole thing is finally finished fish are in order as a snack. Think that they will be a bit frenetic trying to catch em! We now have a frog or two as they were very loud last night 'croaking' ... something tells me the babies will go after them too ...
They are adorable. Have you ever put live fish in for them to catch?

don't forget to post video when you get the fish.

I am loving seeing all these ponds! Anyone have Rouen's or Runner's (or a cross of the two like I do?) I am thinking of doing a stationary pond in my yard, and letting them out daily to go to it...but since they seem a little skittish, I am worried they might take off...opinions? (Otherwise, anyone got an idea for a good, portable, pool that doesn't look super tacky? My husband will hate it otherwise.)

Also...I am sure you all know about this, but just wanted to throw it out there...how do you all bail your small pools/ponds? I used to have a rather large aqaurium, and when it needed to be cleaned I used a small aquarium vacuum, which works by siphoning...it took out about half the water in the process, but it is rather cheap, and I could probably even mock up a homemade one. It would clean it, and you would still retain some of the water if you work quickly enough...and lastly, if you do want to empty it all the way, for those of you killing your backs, a siphon works great! All you need is a clear piece of hose (get it in the aquarium deparment, or by the foot at an aquarium store) 1" diameter seems to be the best...it pulls the gunk out with it....bigger hose means faster emptying though, so even up to a 2" might be ok...all you do is submerge the entire hose (don't make it too long or this is more difficult) making sure that all the air bubbles are out, once all the bubbles are out, keep one end in the water and put your hand over the other end...pull out of the water, and into a bucket/on the ground/etc and it will just pour out of the pond/pool. :)

OMG! Thank you for this! We just filled our duck pond cuz i hated bailing it, but for our kio pond that needs to be drained every so often, this is excellent! I actually resorted to sucking on the end of the hose till water came (yea.. don't ask) I had no idea you could get it to drain this way! Where have you been? LOL!!
