One of my ducks looks like it’s pulling its feathers out or excessively grooming cause I’m the feathers to fall out. They were just at the vet 3 days ago and all were great. They have a pool and clean water to stay clean. But it’s a lot and happened fast. There’s a spot on the lower back as well. It’s hard to get into the vets because of Covid, they can’t be seen again for at least 2 months. Any help would be appreciated.

The only time I ever saw a lower back wound like that was when I started taking care of dumped domestics in a city park. There were young pekins who had bloody wounds like that on their backs. It turned out, due to the fact the domestics in the park were starving, every time the young pekins would rush up for food, either a goose or another duck . . . I can't remember which . . . would bite them there to make them back off, because everyone was so hungry. It was one of the saddest things I ever saw. Is it possible your duck is being bullied? If not, I have no idea what is going on there, if you see no parasites.

Feather plucking is usually caused by a vitamin/mineral deficiency or environmental stressor. What feed are they on? Anything new to their environment? How hot is it there?
