I Have 4 Cayugas 1 Drake and 3 hens they have just started mating and i'm worried.
They are free range 24/7 and they will not go into a shelter at all so i don't know what to do about a nest.

I'm afraid they may hide it and my dog will eat the eggs

What should i do for a nest?

Can a setting duck be moved like a chicken can?

I been thinking of getting a different breed can i free range them with the Cayuga's with no fighting or mixing ?
I want to keep my breeds pure

I would give them a dog house style shelter and stuff it full of straw and see if they use it..I put out an X-Large pet barn shelter never thinking any of my ducks would use it and now I have 4 females sharing it..A mother and daughter mallard , a pekin.mix and a crested..
Never knew dogs would eat eggs?

If you get a different breed and dont keep them apart everyone will breed with anyone....

Thanks for the info i have a dog gloo i can use and i hope they use it

Well i guess i won't be getting another breed i don't have another place i could put them and i wouldn't want them mixing.
