Hi

I have call ducks

I have 4 Males and 7 Females

Will this be a problem as in are they likely to fight?

One breeder told me they will and the other breeder has had ducks for 70+ years and he's never had a problem.

One male is 8 years old and the other 3 are his 4 month old children.

Please advise

I really don't want to have to get rid of any as I have raised the ducklings myself since hatching

I did have 5 Males but I rehomed one as he got very aggressive with me. I don't half miss him though

Thanks

Drakes kept together don't necessarily always "fight," but they don't always get along perfectly, either. Just like with dogs and cats, some are more dominant than others, but that isn't always a problem as long as all the drakes accept whatever pecking order they establish. If they don't, you can have continual power struggles that lead to fighting, which can sometimes lead to a drake being injured or killed. In other words, the answer to that one is "it depends."

The biggest worry I have for you if you keep things as they are is that you have too many drakes for the number of ducks you have. Once the young drakes reach sexual maturity, which won't be long, they're going to be competing for the ducks. Even if that doesn't lead to fighting among the drakes, your ducks are going to be overmated and very possibly injured. Is it possible for you to either rehome some of the drakes or add more ducks to get close to a 1:3 ratio?
