Duck safe coloring for vent?

i think that i have read on here that some put food coloring in the vent and it transfers to the egg shell, but i think that it lasted several days, not for sure, maybe try a search

Could I just put them back in my wife's purse when done? would I have to tell her?

That's a great idea! I wouldn't have thought about food coloring!

would not use nail polish, it is a lacquer and is made to dry fast. but can also be sticky, and I could see it making feathers stick together, and/or irritating sensitive tissues. Lipstick seems a lot safer and more effective, with more smeary staying power. Dunno about food coloring, it is so watery but strongly tinted. I could see it disappearing in one poop.

I will try the lipstick. I have a red one that I don't wear- so I will happily retire it to the duck butts. It's a good cause. Fire engine red duck bums! I'll report back if it works well or not.

I hope it ends up working for you! It will be quite the interesting experiment

I use food colouring. I put it in an old spray bottle and give two good squirts up the vent before bedtime. If your ducks are avid swimmers and have swimming water in their night pen then it might not transfer to the egg that well but if your ducks don't get to swim at night then it should last days. Use a different colour for each duck :)

Here's a pic of how they turn out:
