Hi all
One of our Ducks, Delta (11months old) who is temporarily living inside with us (prolapsed, then overpreened and developed wet feather, with us till moult) has started to limp yesterday.
It's gotten worse today, we've checked for any cuts or abrasions and bumblefoot and her foot looks fine. She's favouring her left foot and the right one is the injured leg.

She has started to stand on her left leg and also hold her right one up when lying down today, plus occasionally appears to scratch at the air behind her with her injured leg.

We think she may have taken a harder than usual fall off the sofa maybe but she's been fine before. We think it could be a sprain or something like that so wanted to get some advice from the good people of BYC. We have been trying to keep her fairly still and not done her usual activities. We are getting her in the bath so she can swim and exercise as normal. She has had 5 days in a row of egg laying which she hasn't done before, at most we get one every 2-4 days from her so not sure if her bones could have been weakened? She has a good diet of mixed Adult and Layer pellets, calcium powder added to those, pea shoots, sweetcorn and mealworms as treats.

I've also attached a video of her walking. We're hoping given some rest she work it out herself but as I am a helicopter parent over our duck I figured I'd ask.

Thanks for any help and advice you can give.

First, let me just say that Delta is GORGEOUS! Oh my goodness!

As far as her limp goes, that's not too bad. If itsa sprain, she'll recover fine in a few days. Since it's getting worse, you might try putting her in a crate with soft towels. A crate will limit her movement and kind of force her to rest the injured leg.

My Welshie, Marmalade, has gotten sprains 2x now because she is a clumsy oaf. Both times, she couldn't walk. After a night in a crate, she was up and about with a slight limp. A couple days later, she was 100% again.

But be sure to watch for swelling or if anything feels hot (i.e. infected).

Not being outside she could be lacking in vitamin D and that helps the calcium to absorb
If you can get poly vi sol or D vi sol both without iron
They are in the pharmacy section as infant vitamins
Add a few drops to the side of her beak or on a treat she will eat

Thanks for the info and yeah she is such a pretty lady, she gets whatever she wants 😂

We've got a large dog crate that's fabric and flexible so she can't injure herself, we'll pop her in there overnight and continue her exercise baths and keep and eye on her over the next few days
