Will they try this? Or is he just bullying her? I had to rescue an EE hen from a 31/2 month old Pekin. He had her by the neck and sorta jumped on top of her. Is this mating behavior or just rough play?

I have another duck about 2 1/2 months old, but I don;t know if its a duck or drake yet. The pekin doesn't mess with that one. But I don't think the Pekin knows it's a duck! lol

They can try to mate. I had a rooster that would try to mate with the guinea hens and even one of our GOATS!

I wonder if it means that chicken is going to start laying soon? Hmmmm

I don't know what the ducks issue is! lol He was hanging out with a rooster all week now he's jumping the hens. He might need a time out in ducky jail! lol

We have a pekin drake, and he has become quite vicious with two of our little EE's. We keep him on a tether at all times now, and will cull him soon. He started when he was maybe 8 months old, but it's become more and more aggressive; he might be close to a year old now. Both harrassing the girls and trying to mate.

There are other threads on this topic. A big drake can kill the little hen this way. Their reproductive organs are very different and don't match, if you get my drift.
Please keep an eye on him.

I read the chicken mating thread the other day....I get exactly what you mean! I'm keeping an eye on him.

He's now in solitary confinement when I can't watch him! Last night a roo flew down from the perch and ducky cornered him and started pulling feathers out. He went directly into a cage and has only been let out when I can watch. (it's a big cage) I have the stuff for the duck pen.......just haven't gotten around to digging and building yet. We're getting started on it today! We can get the run done today so he will have a larger confinement space during the day. He can sleep in the cage in the big coop till the duck house is done.

Can a drake be castrated easily? Just curious, because I have to keep my 10 month old drake pekin seperate from the hens now that he has taken an interest in mating with them, too......
