Duck under weight

Since a vet and buying antibiotics are not an option along with you wanting to go the natural route, do you have or can you get oregano oil? It is a natural antibiotic. My sister who is a nurse actually used it to clear up her constant urinary tract infections when prescribed antibiotics would not work. I also used it to clear a nasty sinus, double ear and strep infection when it kept coming back even though I had ran several courses of prescribed antibiotics. I know these are people examples, but ducks can have oregano and even fresh oregano might be of some help.

**I am by no means not recommending a vet and antibiotics, but since that doesn't seem to be an option I am just trying to help by any means possible**

I was just wondering about the oregano oil. I do have it and will definitely try it in the morning. I was also going to try cayenne pepper, diatomaceous earth and thyme.

Here’s an update on how Bananas’s feet look like top and bottom.

I would keep it wrapped with something like coconut oil. It's naturally antimicrobial, but mainly it will help to soften the core which needs to be dug out as soon as possible. The hole that will be there then needs packed and the foot re-wrapped.

I do keep it wrapped accept for once a day when I rewrap it. I have tried the coconut oil, but it didn't seem to work very good, I will try it again though. I have tried to dig the core out but it's hard to work on Banana because she hate it when we mess with her feet. she keeps moving around and taking her foot back while i'm working on her.

How long was the coconut oil on there? The foot needs to be solidly covered (glob it on there thick) and left wrapped for 24-48 hours. I change my wraps every 24 hours (foot must be wrapped at all times except when changing bandages) keep the bumble covered in an antibiotic ointment (I like Veticeryn Hydrogel, but it's pricey) and then after 2-3 days everything is normally softened enough to just use tweezers. If I think the bumble needs another day or two I will rewrap and keep covered then if needed use a scalpel (I buy bulk individually wrapped sterile packs). If you are having trouble holding her wrap her in a towel, blanket etc. and have someone hold her firmly, but not too tight while you work on the foot. Don't be afraid to really hold her down though even if she doesn't like (obviously not enough to hurt her, but enough to make her stay put) . Removing the core is a necessary evil when it comes to developed bumble foot and she will thank you in the long run for taking care of it sooner than later.

It is already softened, so I Took the first layer off I don’t really see anything I can get and how would I get it out of her leg it looks like it has gone up her leg as well? I will try the coconut oil. Before I just rubbed a little on her wound.

That doesn't look very good. I'm not very experienced in bumble foot, though I have read some people soak the foot in Epsom salt. Google also told me using wound care spray can help.

Today I picked up a syringe from a farm store and I was going to get some Penicillin to use with the syringe but the farm store was out of it. What do y’all think, should I give it to her if I can find it? Do you know were I could get some penicillin that’s safe for ducks?

I'm glad you are looking into antibiotics.

I don't know about penicillin for ducks, since that's not what my vet prescribed for me when my duck had bumblefoot.

I do know that a 12cc syringe is too big for a duck. You'll want a 1 or a 3 cc syringe for accuracy of measurement and the comfort of the duck. Once my vet sent me home with a 5cc oral syringe for my large pekin and that felt like torturing her. I was sure an inexperienced vet assistant saw the dose of 5ccs and just gave me the corresponding syringe. I ended up loading up two 3cc syringes to 2.5ccs and giving her that.

Also 18ga needles are massive!! I wouldn't inject her with that.

I'm sorry I can't help you more. I hope Banana is doing ok.
