Duck VS Chicken

I'm wondering if I need to re-home my duck? She and the rooster have been fighting again, and where as they might not run into each other as much while free ranging, if they did run into each other, I'm afraid the rooster will kill the duck because she WILL NOT BACK DOWN. The rooster doesn't seem to bother the other ducks, and I can't get rid of him. Would he start attacking the other ducks if Al (the rooster's enemy) isn't there?

Oh gosh. I don't know what I would do. I'm sorry you have to be here. Are you ok re-homing him? I know sometimes some animals just can't get along. :(

How would I tell if my duck's bill did get infected, and how would I take care of it if it was?

You might notice the bill being extra warm, some swelling around the base of it. Might be some swelling on the bill itself, or in a worst case perhaps the bill not able to be closed due to swelling inside the upper mandible.

Hard to contemplate.

Giving the duck an opportunity to wash its face in water with apple cider vinegar might help, since that is a tonic and mild antibacterial.

Are you putting antibacterial ointment on scratches?

No, I haven't. She looked perfectly healthy and chipper the next day and since my ducks aren't tame, I decided not too. Oops. I guess I thought I might be able to use your remedy twice before I would never be able to go near her again

.Should I put some on now? And the vinegar- put it her drinking water? Or just give her a bowl of vinegar?

Dilute the vinegar with water. Try a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to a pint of water and see if she will play in that. Try that a couple of times a day, or put about four tablespoons vinegar per gallon of water all the time for a few days.

And I understand about weighing the effectiveness of a treatment that you can only try a couple of times. It is more difficult to pick my ducks up when they know what is coming. But treats immediately afterward may help.

Unpasteurized apple cider vinegar is recommended as a tonic, so it ought not cause issues. Please do a search on the term and decide if this is something you want to try.

No, it doesn't worry me. Thank you for all the help. Now to see if my duck likes playing in vinegar.
