Duck with a crest problem

That's what I'm thinking. I'm worried still that they are going to say there's nothing they can do. This poor duck, I really wonder if he actually has a neurological issue. The other ducks leave him behind. He can't ever find his way out of the pool. I felt bad for him so now he hangs out with the baby chicks.

Sure sounds like he might. Are you supplementing their feed with Niacin than can help some. All water fowl babies that are not feed waterfowl feed need extra niacin because feed formulated for chickens and other poultry doesn't have enough in it and it can lead to leg issues Neurological issues and even death. So you might want to get a form of niacin for your ducklings especially this lil one. It can be plain niacin tablets [no time released or flush free] or Brewers yeast or Nutritional yeast or you can even get B complex in liquid and use it. He needs at least 125 mgs a day 1 Tab spoon per cup of feed with BY and NY and liquid is 1 Teaspoon daily.

There is a feed that is formulated for all Poultry that is an all flock feed.

I started everybody on the All Flock feed when the chicks got big enough to eat it. Up til then I had the chickens and ducks separated because the ducks would eat EVERYTHING and I read the medicated chick start was bad for ducks.
I also have niacin tablets just in case.

Niacin is needed even with crested ducklings and can help with neurological issues stemming for niacin deficiency so if the neurological issues are from the crest then niacin may not help but sure can't hurt to try and see if it is a niacin deficiency working there too since being crested it already has that going against it. Niacin is recommended for all water fowl babies. Even if on all flock some can still have a deficiency so since it's an inexpensive treatment why not try.

It's an adorable lil duckling and deserves all the help it can get. There have been successful treatments here on BYC even with crested ducklings when using niacin treatment. Too me worth trying.
