hello every one my name is Leanna im from Ohio i am new kinda i have had problems with my flock an your forums have helped. i noticed this morning that one of my female ducks was limping so i brought her in so the males would leave her alone .her leg now has a fever in it i didn't feel a brake or see a bumble .any advice would help.

Post pictures if you can. Front and bottom of foot are helpful. Bumble foot is the usual culprit. It can be the smallest of holes that let infection in.
After that a sprain or strain comes to mind. I little rest may be all she needs.
Gout is another swelling cause but generally both legs are affected.
I would think a warm Epsom salt soak would help ease any discomfort she is feeling until you get a better answer.
It's a good chance to clean her legs and feet before pictures too.

Any ideas from duck lovers?

Her scales seem thick to me but I don't have ducks. I would try a warm soak with Epsom salt. She may not like it at first but once they settle they seem to enjoy it.

x2 on the Epsom salt soak. (don't let her drink it...its a laxative to them! Lol)
Would like to see a pic cleaned up, it's hard to tell if that may be bumble.
Also look for any splinters or cuts if you can. Don't stress her out too much yet. Sometimes its easier to just snap some pics, and inspect them, instead of stressing the bird trying to look too closely.

How old is she, breed, and what's your flock ratio? Sometimes a limp is as simple as a over zealous drake, and heals with some solitude.

If her leg is hot, it means there is infection which probably won’t get better without antibiotics. What do the toenails look like? I’ve seen several people here on BYC that had ducks with infections in their joints. @onaharley did Bill and Ted have this issue with swollen and infected joints?

Hi there and welcome to the BYC!

My Bill and Ted (Pekin) had inflamed joints this winter due to the cold, so I'm not much help....but it is early as I just woke up so let me think on this and see what other things comes to mind.

Where at in Ohio are you? My avian vet is located in Ohio.
