Duck With Fleas!!!!

Poultry can get fleas but it's extremely rare. Try switching her pine bedding to cedar (I know, I know... cedar is supposed to be bad but I use it without any problems. Just make sure the space is well ventilated). Also, oils in her bath water is helpful. Try lavender, cedar, or peppermint.

so sorry for the "spam" guys!

I used Cedar shavings in my duck pen and LOVED it, it also never bothered the ducks or chickens either. It really helped with the smell and they were a lot more absorbent than the Pine shavings, probably because Cedar is a softer wood. I use "poultry & Garden Dust" on my birds and haven't had a problem with bugs except for whem I bought a new roo, but the dust fixed him up quick!

You better get hold of all the fleas. First I would give the duck a flea bath. One for dogs should be fine. Then you have to make sure the other birds are clear and the area the duck lives in. You said you had her in the office. I would get a carpet spray with a growth regulator in it so they fleas cannot hatch in your office. Don't worry it is safe for pets and only effects the breeding of fleas. You can use this spray in the duck house too. It will remain active for about 6 weeks, and will not harm the birds or their eggs. For outside you can use DE and perhaps some other products like nematodes. You have to make sure you break the flea cycle or you will be in a lot of trouble in a month or so. Flea bites are painful. I had them on my ankles and it is no fun. Do not use any of those chemical bombs that will kill them all in the house. They never kill them all. Usually only the adults, but the eggs will survive and restart the cycle. Grows regulating hormones are the way to go. They make the adults infertile and prevent the eggs from hatching. As I've said it is safe for birds, pets and humans. These hormones only effects bugs.
