Duck with injured leg

This is the one I was given by a friend who has her Pekin on it. I'm sure there are other brands available just make sure it has MSM in it too. Opie my drake who weights around 13-15 lbs gets half Tablespoon daily I sprinkle it over dry dog food and put a little warm water on it in the afternoon when the water had been absorbed he get his treat he know what the bowl looks like that has the dog food and Cosequin in it. It has helped him so much. That's great she drank her B complex!!

Thanks! I was mostly finding chewables for dogs so that's good to know. I love your drake's name :).

Can you tell The Andy Griffith show was a favorite? lol

Actually, I have the chewable for my dog[14] and I did give one to my drake but I believe the powder is better for him. He limped pretty bad for months until I got him on this Cosequin and he doesn't limp at all now.

She still seems to be improving, and now limps on the actual leg instead of trying to walk with her wing on that side. She stands up more often too. She still doesn't put any any weight on it, but it looks like it is healing :D.

A not so good update: Emma had been healing slowly and was getting around quite well with just a little limp. But Wednesday I found her laying down again and unable to walk at all. Someone local recommended a vet that I didn't know saw ducks. Their fees were more reasonable than the other avian vets so I took her in today. They did an x-ray and it turns out she has fractures in both of her legs. Poor duck. They couldn't do anything other than surgery, so I'm just going to try to keep her as immobile as possible and hope she will heal as long as she seems happy and is eating/drinking. They sent her with some Meloxicam and I'll probably give it to her at night when she goes in the coop so she isn't tempted to move around too much.

One of my runner ducks had a badly fractured hip and leg. the vet said surgery or cull. but i said neither so he gave meloxicam and I took her home and kept her in a lerge dog crate in a spare room, and let her float in the bathtub for an hour or more , twice a day also. she wouldnt eat anything except for a few mealworms so I had to tube feed her. It took a bout 2 -3 weeks then she ate on her own, and it took a month until she was walking ok but still not ready to run the yard with the flock so I kept her in an adjacent very small pen to see the other ducks for 2 more weeks. Since then she has been doing fantastic!!
( I also brought her sister duck in to sleep with her in the crate)

That's great to hear! It makes me hopeful 🙂.

Im back to share pics I think duck xrays are super cool and the 2 ducks is Buttercup (broken leg) and her sister Daffodil (who is blind in one eye) this was at the vet I said I had to bring the extra duck because she is Buttercup's support animal :) They take care of each other
