Hi all, needing to ask for advice on here as I can't really find much online except about foamy eye which I don't think this is. My oldest duck (coming up to 6) has white round her eyes, I think she is now struggling to see. I think it started at the top of the eye which I noticed first, then has spread down a bit. All my other ducks are ok, except for the odd sneezes. From what I can see it is completely dry, not running, and it is white not yellow. Does anyone have any idea what this could be or what I can do for her (before taking her to the vet). Thanks.

Could be a respiratory infection. It would be best to have a vet look at her.

My duck is currently suffering from similar symptoms. The vet called it something scientific that translated to "goopy eye" and gave us some eye drops to put in his eyes 3x a day. They are definitely helping! The drops are "Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution USP, .3%" 5mL

I had ruled out infection because her eyes are not running, red or swollen, but I guess it is possible still. I've had ducks for nearly 6 years, I know they need water deep enough to clean their heads, I'm not an idiot...none of my other ducks have this problem.

It's possible our drake has damaged her eyes-we have enough females for him but he has always taken a shine to this one, I know they can get aggressive with their mating. I'll separate her anyway for this reason and to stop any infection spreading if it is that (but I really don't think it is).

Kally-glad your duck is recovering well! I'll see if mine improves in a couple of days after being separated, if not trip to the vets I guess.

Can you get some good, clear pics of her eye? Both would be better... hard to know exactly what type of white and where it is that you are describing... might be able to tell more from pics...

Here is a link that describes how over breeding could damage their eyes. . and some things you can do for repository infections. just something I googled so no clue how trustworthy it is. Please do let us know what you find out if you take her to the vet. Or if it clears up after you separate her. :)http://www.thecapecoop.com/foamy-eye-disease-ducks/

I already came across that article in my googling too-really good info.

Ok so on closer inspection, the white around the eyes isn't the problem, it's just feather loss or maybe it's always been there I'm not sure. Anyway, the reason she can't see very well is because she has blue pupils (both eyes), so I'm thinking cataracts?

Do her pupils look like this?
