Draining will be an issue. We have no choice really but to bail out the water. They are quite messy indeed but oh so much fun. I have 2 kiddie pools and a stock tank. Kiddie pools get changed every day but tank only every 3 or 4 days. They poop in thier water pretty much just as soon as they get in it. I have a drain hose connected which goes directly to my garden soil. ACV helps keep the water from getting too funky btw in that short of time. And it is good for them anyway. How are you planning on draining your inground tank? That was a good question.
I like the look of a buried pool, but if you don't install a drain in it you might want to consider putting it at ground level with a ramp to get into it, just so you can more easily dump it and clean it. I have a little pond with a drain in my duck run, but they were so accustomed to their kiddie pool, they've never really taken to it. It's a giant waterbowl for them. But even with that I still change the water every day or two because it gets fowl quickly. They love their giant kiddie pool and this is easy enough to bail water from and dump out every other day. I hope Millie gets adjusted quickly and enjoys her bigger space, and you'll find a way to make it easy on yourself for cleaning, because they get their water dirty fast. She's cute, and it's so sweet that you've adopted her!Draining will be an issue. We have no choice really but to bail out the water.
I don't know what breed she is, but she is either a Mallard or a Rouen. I think she is not full grown yet. Still deciding on whether to get a drake. No by a drake, they are way to hormonal to only have one female they would need at least 3 and up but you might want to go that route if your wanting more ducks but you wouldn't want to get a large breed with Millie being so small.
That's a good idea.Fish tank pumps are sold as manual, water pressure (attach to a hose or spigot) and electric.
That was one of the things I was wondering about; whether she would use out of necessity or if she would just stay afraid and end up sick. She seems smarter than that, but I know absolutely nothing about ducks. Or at least only what I saw Daffy Duck do, lolTry placing the water pan adjacent to the stock waterer for a couple of days, and then empty it, but leave it in place. Hopefully she will become comfortable with the stock tank and necessity will cause her to use it.
You might consider a gal pal or 2!I don't know what breed she is, but she is either a Mallard or a Rouen. I think she is not full grown yet. Still deciding on whether to get a drake.
