So about a week ago I purchased a baby duck from my local feed store. So far he's been fantastic but after a few days I noticed he was lonely and wasn't advised that they should be in pairs or multiples (first time duck mom), so after this I decided to go back and get another.
The second duckling we had purchased was one that a worker at the store had purchased and returned for unknown reasons, but still I chose that one and brought her/him home to the the other, shortly after I noticed that this second duck was strange. She would run away when I would walk by or start pacing back and forth when i would try to pick her up, I've given her a couple days to adjust to her new home but still, she runs and now screams, and now shes starting to scare the first duck and he now does the same but before he would gladly hop in my hand and loved to be held, but when I separate them and take out the first duck he goes back to normal and plays as usual. I took her out of her home to let her roam around and I noticed that her neck went limp and she was walking as if she was drunk.
After taking a look at her and holding her carefully so her neck was supported I noticed her feet are also peeling, its thick skin that looks like shedding and some small feathers are beginning to fall out. I've read about how ducks grow and shed but I'm not sure if it's normal or if she's stressed or maybe even sick, the other duck who is from the same litter is doing just fine, happy healthy, no shedding or peeling of the feet. What could it be and what can I do? (They're bother under 2 weeks now)
