my duck eggs are on day 25. indian runners.my first duck hatch. I took them out of the bator to candle on the way to the hatcher. all eggs very full and moving. 1 egg was vibrating when I took it out of the bator. put it up to my ear and heard tapping. candled and saw a bill in the center of the air cell. that was about 6 hours ago. the duck has not pipped yet. does anyone have an idea how long it would normally be before I see a pip? getting worried.

I have noted it can be up to 24 hours from an internal pip til I see a crack in the shell- and then another 24 hours until the little one actually hatches. Sometimes a little more or less. Dont stress too much yet.. They will still be absorbing the yolk and blood in the vein structure around the egg.

My last duck eggs were like that, I candled before locking them down and a few were already in the air cell! I seem to remember it took a while after that for them to pip, I wanna say like 2 days? I was freaking that they would suffocate!

It can take quiet a while but if the baby hasn't pipped yet after 3 days I poke an air hole at the top of the egg because every time I hatch some scovy eggs the babies cant or wont pip and they run out of air and die. That's just my 5 cents worth though.

I am really glad to hear that the little one might be ok. what humidity do you guys hatch and incubate at? I would also be interested in advice on muscovy hatching. I have some of those eggs in the bator too. I think they still have a couple weeks to go. I hatched alot of chicks last year. I have chick experience but not duck. I put these in with chicken eggs. they incubated at about 35% humidity. there are only 3 eggs. I put them in to check fertility. 1 from each of my girls. 2 are pure runner and 1 is 3/4 runner 1/4 crested. mom has a crest.

That's what I incubate my duck eggs at, and people are always shocked and tell me that's too low for ducks - but it works for me, and I'm glad it worked for you! Your new ducklings are adorable!
