Duckling bites- help!

So i have 4 runner ducklings, 3 of which allow me to pick them up, theyre all calm on my lap but they nibble at my fingers a LOT, why do they do this? Do they hate me?

No, usually ducks hate being held, but they're probably just nibbling around for food.

Ducks figure out what things are by nibbling. Mine, as adults, will still pick something up they can't eat and try 19282 times and then the next one will do the same thing and try 39234 times.
