I’m getting ducklings and they’re arriving in week and so we’re preparing the brooder and getting supplies, including food.
i was going to do chick feed and mix it with brewers yeast but when looking for brewers yeast on amazon i found some duckling starter, perfect! problem is that it’s 22% protein and 1-2 week ducklings need 18-20% protein i’m fairly sure. the reviews seem pretty good and it is made for ducklings so is this okay? no? is so what could i do to lower the protein i know people mix oats with food to lower it. or maybe look for a diffrent starter for the ducklings.

We found ordering duck food on line whether from Chewy or AMazon is expensive. We used starter crumbles from our feedstore and supplemented with brewer's yeast. When the ducklings were able to go on adult food [pellets] my son's priority was for their feed to be organic. Organic duck food has been scarce in the last 3-4 months and so his ducks are now on organic chicken layer pellets still supplemented with brewer's yeast. He knows the brewer's yeast is necessary even though the ducks are more than 6 months old, because one of the ducks got confused and would not leave the pen. Her calling out to the other ducks was distressing them and us. That behavior ceased within a week of being supplemented with niacin. My son insisted on stopping the brewer's yeast once the duck was behaving normally again: within a further 2 weeks, she was acting strange and refusing to leave the pen! She, and all the flock, are now on daily brewers yeast sprinkled on their meal worms, and the confused duck is back to behaving normally again.

In contrast my flock of male ducks eat duck pellets as I don't need their food to be organic. Son and I both supplement our ducks feed with a cupful of mealworms everyday -- the ducks love the meal worms!!!
