Hi everyone I am hatching ducklings(Pekin I think)with my prek class. I have five pipped, they pipped yesterday afternoon and I do not see much progress on them zipping. I do see them moving and I can hear them peeping though. Several are at the smaller end of the eggs. I am not sure if I help or not help. The ones that pipped all have access to a small opening. Just worried that it is taking them awhile. How long should I give them?

Thank you both, it just seems like its taking forever:) Probably because I have kiddos that are asking me about them every few moments! We had a successful chicken hatch with so far 5 out of 7. Ducks were actually due tomorrow but pipped yesterday. This part is soooo hard.

I had six eggs in the incubator. I had two hatch at the end of the day, and one that was acting distressed and looked weird in the egg, it was really sticky and it was also in a weird position. I waited it out until about 6 and then started to help it out. Got it out and it didnt look good but made sure it was safe and then went home. Got to school this morning and all three that I had in the brooder looked great so he made it! First time having to assist a duck it was scary. I knew it would be a quitter if I didnt help so I left feeling like if it made it it made it at least it had a shot. Also two more in the incubator hatched so we are at 5 ducklings. The egg that is still not hatched may be a late DIS? We have five chicks also! Then we have four more that someone brought me to pop in to the incubator so we could have 9 chicks!
