Duckling just hatched, open belly *edited for leg question^

The duck seems to be doing okay this morning. The umbilicus has dried some. The next order of business is his wonky leg. I taped it to a bit of plastic and put a piece of popsicle stick on to help straighten it out. Any other ideas or ways to improve the splint?

You could also try this:
With ducklings, I’ll sometimes add a piece of stiff paper (like cut a piece from a Manila folder or thin cardboard) for underneath the foot.
Lay the tape, sticky side up, then the stiff paper on top of that, then roll another piece of tape sticky sides out, stick on top of the paper, so the bottom of the foot will stick to the tape. Then wrap the whole thing with another piece of tape and trim the excess.
