hi there

I have a duckling that hasn’t been able to zip, I was advised to assist so have removed a little shell but the membrane is so dry, I’ve tried to dampen it but the chick still Isn’t managing to get out, it is pushing its beak through the hole and still chirping but I’m scared to help anymore in case it dies

I've had too many die in the hatching stage. I also helped by moistening the membranes under the shell. Last time, after 2 died in the shell, I helped one to hatch a day after it had pipped. It wasn't ready and the umbilicus bled heavily. I was amazed it took almost a week for the dried umbilical cord to fall off. But that one lived.
