Duckling not eating, just dribbles water. large crop.

Possibly its the lettuce causing the issue..?
Hmm.. sometimes they eat it too fast..Can cause binding.

Well, she is no longer bound up. That was remedied, with massage and hand feeding grit (which I still do). I guess I should have started a new post but I had mentioned the feather loss in the op so i figured I would update here.

Thank you.

I am not giving anymore treats as well. Std diet with nutritional yeast mixed in.

Here is a video I made to show the kids she was ok.

Still haven't changed out that waterer? Ducks scoop more rather than peck. Can you get another dish for the feed and put their water in what you have the food in now? That would be better than that trough. They will make a mess, but it's what they need. And the heat lamp needs to be pointed away from the middle of the brooder. Ducklings don't need as much heat as chicks after the first few days. Remember, you are aiming for one small area of heat, with the rest of the brooder being room temp.

Heat lamp is not pointed at center of brooder. It may look like it but if you see the shadow on the straw, that is the spot. 93-96...I am moving it up in morning to 88-92 as they move down 5 degrees. each week.

Heat is 93-96 at one small spot near the back, a circle about 15 inches....look at the shadow on the floor that is the area that is warm. must be optical illusion.

As for the waterer, I am working on it. They are in another brooder with an open waterer, for now.

I do not have margarine container, I do not have lots of plastic. I am having to raid my wife's Tupperware so I hope whatever I come up with suits the ducks.

Not sure how the waterer could cause baldness in one duck. But out it goes.

It only needs to be about 95* for the first few days. The 5 degree drop each week is a general guideline for brooding chicks. It does not apply to ducklings. Ducklings need much less heat than chicks. Mine were completely off heat by 3 weeks of age and moved out to their outdoor duck house by 4 weeks.

Thank you.
