Duckling Not Walking On One Foot

Dear Miss Lydia:

This is the only duckling that this has happened to. I'm using a round plastic container that has a base to it. How often would I have to change the water with the niacin in it because the waterer I'm using isn't a gallon? How do you use the niacin? Do you shake the container with the pill in it until it dissolves?

If you don't mind will you please look at this website at this niacin please? https://www.walmart.com/ip/Niacin-Vitamin-B3/109343699

Thank you.
Stick with the Brewers yeast if it's the right kind of brewers yeast not for making alcohol but for food consumption. I use since I am just feeding a few ducklings at a time 1 Tab per cup of feed. To me much easier than using niacin tabs making sure they are dissolved and not going to the bottom of the container of water. If you want to use niacin then mix in something like an empty gal milk jug and then put into your waterers. The Solgar is the right kind of niacin.

And the Animed is a good one to I have used it.

I tried putting hobbles on him and he panicked and flopped around like a fish. He is standing more since I started giving him brewers yeast in his food. I checked out his leg and both are the same size no swelling onthe hock or the leg.
. I have seen where you can help push the tendon back in by naturally stretching out thier legs back like they normally stretch. I dont feel like his hip is out as both feel the same. Feet are boththe same color but his foot on the the affected foot he can't move the toes that well.
Well good to hear legs and hips seem fine. Okay now on to some water therapy if you haven't already started it. If not then start by putting some nice warm water up to your ducklings legs . this gives them time to get use to the water it won't take long since they are "water fowl" lol. let him/her play for a while maybe 5-7 mins to start as long as the water stays warm. Then pat dry and right back under heat lamp to dry off. After you have done this then put the water deep enough he can float. You want him to use those little legs so he builds up his muscles. He'll have a blast and you'll love watching. You can also massage his toes while in the water too. Take note of how he is using his leg and moving in the water. You can do water therapy as often as you want as long as it's nice and warm water and no chance of ducklings chilling. And you can give 100% to be there with them or him. Do you have more ducklings? You never want to leave ducklings un supervised in water when young. Make sure ducklings are not on anything slippery in their brooder or anywhere else this can contribute to leg issues.

Keep us updated. @DianaG59

Will the brewer's yeast hurt the chicken biddie?

How do you put the yeast in with the food? Do you add it to the cup of food and then mix it in or what?

The ball before the leg on the foot that he's not putting any weight on is bigger than the other ball before the leg that he can walk on with his foot.

Thank you.

I can't find any info that says brewers yeast can hurt a chick or chicken. My flock all eats together so when I have ducklings and chicks they are all getting the same feed and it does have BY in it. Maybe you can find some info I couldn't. Another reason I like to use BY instead of just plain niacin BY has essential B's not just one so to me it's more natural form.

I sprinkle it on the top of the food and then let them eat it.I use 1 teaspoon per cup of food.

A feed ingredient that is rich in niacin is dried brewers yeast. There is about 5mg niacin per 15 grams (one tablespoon) of human grade brewers yeast. Livestock grade brewers yeast is not as concentrated. There is only about 1.5 grams niacin for each tablespoon of livestock grade brewers yeast. [taken from Metzers website.]
